Farmers Know Fresh

- 23rd May 2023

Schoonbee Landgoed has been in the business of fresh produce and food security for over 50 years. Since starting with the production of cash crops like vegetables and maize in 1971, the Schoonbee family has been proud to be stewards of agricultural land in Groblersdal and to bring fresh, nutritious produce to families in South Africa for more than half a century.

Over the last 25 years, Schoonbee Landgoed has focused mainly on producing and packing export-quality table grapes and citrus at scale to create jobs in the Groblersdal area in a sustainable way.

Our knowledge and expertise of the local and international fresh produce industry and cold chain management is unparalleled, much like the quality of our produce.

Sharing the abundance of the Loskop Valley

Schoonbee Landgoed understands that our business is interlinked and interdependent with the local and national communities in which we operate. It is our mission to improve sustainability, not only for ourselves but also for the individuals and businesses in these societies. In 2021, Schoonbee Landgoed launched an e-commerce initiative to increase economic activity for entrepreneurs in the Loskop Valley, our home base.

We are proud of the 10 Loskop Valley entrepreneurs we have partnered with thus far – and we celebrate their unique products that we have been able to package and market to a national audience on their behalf.

We look forward to many more partnerships with local entrepreneurs to expand our “Proudly Made in the Loskop Valley” initiative.

Through this journey, we have realised that Schoonbee Landgoed is “Fresh” at our core, and bringing customers a basket overflowing with fresh produce is what we want to be great at. Farmers in South Africa produce almost all the fresh produce one could desire and bringing consumers first-class, local, in-season produce on behalf of South African farmers is our way to honour the hard work of these producers and help them be more sustainable in these difficult times.

Farmers know fresh

Schoonbee Landgoed is proud to carefully source the best in-season fruit and vegetables from our fellow South African farmers to complement our fresh juice and fresh meat range. We are also simplifying and minimising packaging to reduce our impact and highlight the inherent qualities of the beautiful and nutritious produce – just as it was created, without ego.

Taking on this mission is no small task, as supplying fresh produce needs immense care. We realise that every aspect of the cold chain – from the farmer to your home – needs constant improvement to ensure that Schoonbee Landgoed can delight our customers with these fresh products in every delivery.  This reality remains our commitment. Schoonbee Landgoed’s journey towards expanding its basket of fresh produce from farmers by a farmer excites us, and we hope that someday soon, you will understand the difference when your produce is Schoonbee Landgoed Fresh.

After extensive trials, simulations and real world testing, we are excited to introduce our new, more durable and reusable ice brick. Colder than frozen water, the liquid has been engineered to thaw slowly to ensure your orders arrive farm fresh at your door wherever you are in South Africa.
