Fresh Food Rooted in Traditional Values, since 1971.

Schoonbee Landgoed has been in the business of fresh produce and food security for over 50 years. Since starting with the production of cash crops like vegetables and maize in 1971 the Schoonbee family has been proud to be stewards of agricultural land in Groblersdal bringing fresh, nutritious produce to families in South Africa and internationally for more than half a century.

Over the last 25 years, Schoonbee Landgoed has focused mainly on producing and packing export-quality table grapes and citrus at scale to create jobs in the Groblersdal area in a sustainable way. Our knowledge and expertise of the local and international fresh produce industry as well as cold chain management is unparalleled, much like the quality of our produce.

Protecting this fresh produce from becoming waste is at the core of our mission, leading to the establishment of various strategic ventures aimed at turning overflow of produce into an array of consumer products that add value to peoples’ lives.

The management of Schoonbee Landgoed believes that our business is interlinked and interdependent with the local and national communities in which we operate while being on this journey. It is our goal to improve sustainability not only for ourselves but also for the individuals and businesses in these societies.

Made in the Loskop Valley

To realise this mission, Schoonbee Landgoed launched an e-commerce initiative to increase economic activity for entrepreneurs in and around our home base of Groblersdal. The heart of this e-commerce initiative is the Loskop Valley community. The variety of unique and high-quality products from this area is leveraged to supplement the product range of Schoonbee Landgoed’s online shop.

This online shop offers an abundance of seasonal, export-grade produce cultivated in the Loskop Valley alongside pure fresh juices that are pressed and bottled on the farm. Our Local Butcher provides fresh meat cuts and biltong to your liking. Together with this, pantry staples such as dehydrated citrus, nuts, nut butters and honey from our resident beekeeper fill up your basket. To top it all off, small businesses from our area produce natural living products such as sweet treats, wholesome baked goods, unique condiments, craft kombucha, traditional boerseep and lemon-scented lifestyle products – all incorporating ingredients from the farm and the area.

We are proud of the numerous Loskop Valley entrepreneurs we have partnered with thus far and we celebrate their unique products that we have been able to package and market to a national audience on their behalf. Giving South Africans access to these handcrafted products, made with small-town heart (and flair) has been a privilege.

Farmers Know Fresh

Throughout this journey, we have realised that Schoonbee Landgoed is “Fresh” at our core and bringing customers a basket overflowing with an abundance of fresh produce is what we want to be great at. Farmers in South Africa produce almost all of the fresh produce that your heart desires, and bringing consumers first-class, export quality, local, in-season produce on behalf of South African farmers is our way to honor the hard work of these producers and help them become more sustainable. It is our privilege to highlight the inherent qualities of the beautiful and nutritious produce just as it was created – without ego.

You can read more about Schoonbee Landgoed’s Fresh Produce journey in our Farmer’s Know Fresh blog.

Rooted in shared values

Schoonbee Landgoed has found much common ground with the founders of Rooted – The Capital City Market in Pretoria East. This farmer’s market shares our mission of helping local entrepreneurs to reach a wider consumer base by providing them a platform to market their niche products.

The Schoonbee Landgoed online team is excited to join the Rooted market as a vendor once again! You’ll find us there from 1 – 3 December 2023 where you can collect farm fresh produce if you pre-order your ROOTED FRESH BOX.

The event is pet friendly. Admission is R25 (at the door or from our online store). Free entrance for kids under 10.

We look forward to seeing you there and engaging with you! Come say hello and ask us anything you’d like to know about Schoonbee Landgoed, our farming processes, the origin of our products or what we’ve got planned for the future!
