  • The product development scope includes selected produce from the Loskop Valley and is heavily focused on food and drink.
  • The Schoonbee Landgoed e-commerce business is in its start-up phase and needs dedicated, full-time capabilities for further growth.
  • Schoonbee Landgoed is an established leader in the primary agriculture space, with a strong existing brand in fresh produce market that anchors the e-commerce initiative.
  • The successful candidate will lead the effort for the development of the Product Portfolio in line with the mandate of the initiative and guided by the Product Portfolio Forum. New products may extend beyond food and drink, based on opportunities and trends.
  • The initiative receives strong support from business owners in the start-up phase, while operating in a separate business unit, with shared services support from Schoonbee Landgoed.

B. Consumer Sciences (Food Retail Management)/Honors in Marketing:

  • Consumer food research & consumer aspects of food.
  • Marketing research & strategic marketing.
  • Recipe development and standardization.

  • Supply chain management (basic understanding).

The minimum qualification for this position is a graduate with 2 years relevant work experience.

Functional Requirements:

Starting responsibilities for the successful candidate:

  • Research and stay abreast of consumer and food trends – specifically on-line. Identify possible market opportunities and present trends to merchandising panel.
  • Identify market niches and opportunities into which existing products could be adapted and new products developed.
  • Track all new food product development projects in the product development funnel from the concept stage to launch, presenting progress to all stakeholders and team members.
  • identify possible new products by brainstorming ideas, discussing the product’s requirements, and determining market and overall feasibility for a particular product concept. Evaluate the success of potential new products in their markets.
  • Recommend new products and work with the NPD team to transform food concepts into viable products. Discover who’s going to buy the product and ways to make it unique. Use surveys and other research tools to focus the product concept and target goals.
  • Define the key elements of the new food product, such as the format, size, taste, colour, texture, and consistency.
  • Formulation of new recipes and improvement of existing recipes and packaging. Develop the new food product, including the recipe, sourcing of ingredients, shelf life, packaging and manufacturing processes.
  • Developing a new food product involves assembling and presenting samples of the product to an external customer. Conduct taste panels for proposed new products and document results. Prepare reports and recommendations based on new food product trials.
  • Coordinate shelf-life studies and determine food safety requirements.
  • Document the manufacturing input requirements, manufacturing process and manufacturing outputs. Ensure that potential new products can be manufactured profitability.
  • Ensure that all food safety protocol is in place and maintained.
  • Present final product and packaging concept to the merchandising panel for approval.
  • Present and execute visual merchandising strategy of approved new products. Coordinate photography of new products.
  • Communicate and provide visual assets and product descriptions to retailing teams.
  • Participate and ensure the successful launch of the new product. Track performance of new products and present feedback to the merchandising panel.
  • Continually audit the manufacturing, packaging and presentation of new products that are in production to ensure consistency against the envisioned and approved new product concept.

Additional responsibilities will be developed as the E-commerce business and other business units grow.
